There's something missing from today's R&B. Authentic tracks from the age-old genre just aren't being spun regularly or promoted in mainstream media. So on Friday when I discovered Sweden's Beldina, it was like finding the prize at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box. The Kenyan-born songstress recently released her new EP Intermission. The four-track release leads with "Breath In," which has a 90's feel reminiscent of girl groups like 702, Xscape or Brownstone. “Try to get my number, straight. Forget it. Realize it’s getting late, but maybe. I should drop by to say hi. Wondering what he’s doing,” Beldina sings. The 22-year-old continues to sing about a surprise trip to a lover's crib gone bad. The EP continues with tracks that allow Beldina's vocal range to shine, while singing about distance and a love that can't be shook.

Last week, Brooklyn rapper and "Sisterhood of Hip-Hop" star Siya released her new mixtape, Better Later Than Never. This time around the "Real MVP" artist shyed away from working with her usual producers The Olympicks and opted for collaborating with a few new producers such as Gene Bell and Joe Billi. Although working with new producers is refreshing, the tracks that stood out to me the most were the ones produced by Siya's longtime producer Black Metaphor ("I'm So Brooklyn" and "Back in the Day"). But the production isn't solely pushing the tracks. Per usual, Siya shines the brightest when digging deep and telling stories about growing up in Brooklyn, the New York borough that is also home to some of her favorites, Biggie and Jay Z.
Other songs that deserve a constant replay are "Tucked In a Bed of Gold" (Produced by Numarc) and "Won't Stop Me" (Produced by Black Metaphor).
